Presidents Day Weekend

This past weekend was a nice extended one thanks to Presidents Day. Here is some work I was able to do on the Mini.

Photobucket
I took out the rear windshield and right rear seam cover.

Photobucket
The rear seam is in good condition. I'll put some rustproof on it.

Photobucket
The rear glass looks good too.

Photobucket
The rear glass rubber and strip do not look so good. I'll have to buy new ones.

Photobucket
I welded up some holes on the boot lid.

Photobucket
Then I put the angle grinder to the welds.

Photobucket
Here's the bootlid with afterwards.

Photobucket
The boot is pretty rusty. It is solid in most areas but will require some patches. I'll put a coat of RustBullet down on it too.

Photobucket
With the rear windshield out I can use the rear parcel shelf as a tray to hold my beer. Driking and driving is a no-no, but drinking and rebuilding...

Photobucket
And I always like to be safe when grinding and welding.

  1. Wow Gene, Percy is going to be cherry when you get done. Look out rust, Gene's in town and he's comin to get ya! Where did you pick up those welding and grinding skills? Are you going to keep Percy black? Nice work and thanks for putting your progress up on this blog. Daddy-O

  2. Oh! I never knew that you could weld! Must get it from my side of the family. Hahahaha!! You are doing a lot of work on this mini but I think that it will be worth it. Do the kids get out there and help? Love, Mom

  3. Hey M & P!
Thanks for checking out the blog!

The welding is all trial and error for me and most of the time it is error. I'd like to get a really nice welder later down the line. This was just a cheap jobbie to get me started.

The color is going to be a flat OD green. Percy is going to be somewhat of a rat. I think it will look really boss.
